Rob Heath grew up in a musical family in East Canton, Ohio. His father, Ron Heath, played around the club scene to support a young Rob and drummed in the family polka band. Rob took his first drum lesson at age 6. As a teenager, he marched in the Canton Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps, and at Capital University, he earned a music degree. A trip to New York City in 2002 steeled his resolve for a move there one year later that would shape the rest of his career.
In 2006, Rob met fellow Ohioan Aaron Lee Tasjan at a Tim Easton show. Together they formed the Madison Square Gardeners, who would become known for their own music and for backing up songwriters like Jill Sobule, Mike Viola, Ben Kweller and Kevn Kinney.
After gigs with Allison Moorer at Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble and elsewhere, Rob went on to appearances with her on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Show with David Letterman. That led to Letterman with Justin Townes Earle and the opportunity to play on a Steve Earle-produced Ana Egge record.
When not on the road with the Gardeners and other acts, Rob lives in New York City, where he divides his time between playing in clubs and making records.
Rob plays Remo drumheads, Vic Firth drumsticks and Istanbul cymbals, and uses Mono cases.
